for a starting with
This page draws from the 59 elegant girl names in our list: names with a graceful, polished sound, often long and often with a long history. The 10 at random mode is on; Top 10 shows the most popular first.
Half of the 2025 top 10 is on this page: Olivia is 1st, Charlotte 2nd, Amelia 4th, Sophia 5th and Isabella 7th. Eleanor (12th) and Aurora (15th) follow. In all, 27 of these names are in the Social Security Administration top 100. So an elegant name is not, by itself, an unusual choice in the United States.
What these names share is a rhythm of three or four syllables, a soft ending, and a feel of Europe or the past. Several carry a royal echo, like Charlotte, Isabella, Eleanor, Victoria and Caroline; others a literary one, like Penelope, Eloise, Vivian or Ophelia. Latin is the most common root, with 19 names, just ahead of Greek with 16.
If you love the style but want fewer namesakes, the 32 names outside the top 100 are worth a look. Some are true rarities, like Cordelia, Delphine, Imogen, Isolde, Odette and Persephone; others, like Genevieve, Juliette, Seraphina and Theodora, are more familiar but still outside the top 100. Several are French and pronounced the French way, so check that you are happy with how people around you will say them.
