A Secret Santa the teacher can run in ten minutes

In class, students don’t have their own phones out and you don’t want to collect email addresses. This page is set up for that: the budget starts at $5 (shown under Other amount), there is no couples screen, and the reveal is set to Pass the phone. Paste the class list, then call students to your desk one at a time. Each taps their name, holds the button, reads the name and taps Hide and pass the phone. A counter shows how many students have seen their match.

Before the draw

  • Tell families first. Send a short note home with the budget, the exchange date and the rule that gifts stay simple. Some families find even a small extra cost hard, so offer an alternative such as a homemade gift or a class supply box.
  • Keep a spare gift or two. If a student is absent on the day or forgets, nobody leaves empty-handed.
  • Write it down. Younger students forget names. Give each a small card to write their match on and keep it in their folder.

Ideas around $5

Fun erasers and pencils, a bookmark and a small notebook, stickers, a bouncy ball, a mini puzzle, hot chocolate mix in a decorated bag, or a used book from home in good condition.

Alternatives some classes prefer

A book exchange, where every student brings a wrapped book and the draw decides who receives which. Or a kindness Secret Santa: instead of a gift, each student writes a kind note to the classmate they drew. For picking who reads first or who hands out the gifts, use the random student picker.

How it works

  1. Add everyone’s name

Tap Together, right now, then type each name and press Add, or paste a whole list. You need at least 3 people, and nobody can draw themselves.

  2. Answer the short questions

One question per screen, depending on the page: gift ideas, couples who shouldn’t draw each other, then the budget per gift, often already chosen here. Press OK to go on.

  3. Reveal the matches

Choose Pass the phone: each person taps their name, then holds the button to see their match. Or choose Private links and send one link per person in your group chat.

Questions

How many students can take part?

Up to 50 names, which covers any class and most grade levels. The draw is instant; the time it takes is the walk to the desk, about half a minute per student.

Are students’ names sent anywhere?

No. In this mode the names stay in the browser of the device you use. Nothing goes to a server and no email is needed.

What if a student moves away after the draw?

Remove their name and press New draw, then reveal again. If you prefer not to redraw the whole class, the teacher can simply buy the gift for the student who had drawn that name.

Does the teacher take part?

It is up to you. Many teachers stay out and keep the spare gifts instead, which keeps the draw fully between students.

Can I do a Secret Santa without emails?

Yes. Choose Together, right now, add the names and answer three quick questions. Then pass the phone around, or send one private link per person in your group chat.
