An office Secret Santa without the spreadsheet

A gift exchange between colleagues needs fewer questions than a family one, so this version of the Secret Santa generator leaves out the couples screen, which colleagues rarely need, and starts the budget question on $20. Choose Together, right now, type or paste your coworkers’ names, confirm the budget, then pick how people find out. Pass the phone works at a team meeting; Private links works when half the team is remote or you would rather send each match in the team chat.

Rules that keep a work exchange pleasant

  • Make it opt-in. Ask who wants to join before you draw. A gift exchange nobody can skip feels like a tax, not a party.
  • One budget, said out loud. The amount appears next to every match, so nobody overspends to impress the boss or underspends by accident. Between $15 and $25 is a comfortable range for most teams.
  • Keep it anonymous until the swap. With Hold to reveal, the name only shows while the button is held, so a colleague glancing at the screen sees nothing.
  • Fix the date now. Put the exchange on the calendar, ideally the last team lunch or meeting before the holidays, and remind people a week before.
  • Keep gifts work-safe. No clothing sizes, nothing too personal, and think twice before alcohol. Calling it a holiday gift exchange includes colleagues who don’t celebrate Christmas.

Gift ideas by budget

BudgetIdeas that suit almost any colleague
$10A small desk plant, gourmet hot chocolate, a nice notebook, a deck of cards
$20A mug with good coffee or tea, a desk organizer, a pocket puzzle game
$25A phone stand, an insulated lunch box, a box of local treats

Need prizes for the holiday party too? The office raffle draws winners from the staff list. Mixing departments for games afterwards is quicker with the team generator.

How it works

  1. Add everyone’s name

Tap Together, right now, then type each name and press Add, or paste a whole list. You need at least 3 people, and nobody can draw themselves.

  2. Answer the short questions

One question per screen, depending on the page: gift ideas, couples who shouldn’t draw each other, then the budget per gift, often already chosen here. Press OK to go on.

  3. Reveal the matches

Choose Pass the phone: each person taps their name, then holds the button to see their match. Or choose Private links and send one link per person in your group chat.

Questions

Should Secret Santa at work be mandatory?

It works better as a voluntary event. Ask who is in, draw only those names, and offer people who skip it a place at the party anyway.

How do I run an office Secret Santa with remote coworkers?

Choose Private links on the last screen. Each person gets a link that opens only their own match and the budget. Paste them one by one in direct messages, or copy them all and send each one privately.

What if a colleague leaves or joins after the draw?

Press New draw to draw everyone again with the updated list, then send the new links or pass the phone again. Old links still open the old match, so tell everyone the first draw no longer counts.

Can I take part if I organize it?

Yes. You type your own name like everyone else. With Pass the phone you only look when it is your turn, and with Private links you send the links without opening them.

Can I do a Secret Santa without emails?

Yes. Choose Together, right now, add the names and answer three quick questions. Then pass the phone around, or send one private link per person in your group chat.
