A 0 to 9 spinner for math games

Math class has a classic number spinner made with a paper clip and a pencil; this one needs neither. It holds the ten digits, 0 to 9, each with a 1 in 10 chance. Unlike the number wheel (1 to 10), it includes zero and stops at nine, so you can spin several times to build bigger numbers.

Math games with a digit spinner

  • Biggest number wins. Each player draws three boxes for hundreds, tens and ones. Spin; everyone writes the digit in a box. Once a digit is placed, it can't move. The biggest three-digit number wins.
  • Place value. Spin twice to make a two-digit number, then say how many tens and ones it has.
  • Number bonds. Spin and say what you need to add to make 10.
  • Codes and puzzles. Spin four times to set the code for an escape game or a treasure box.

Building numbers with several spins

Each spin is independent, so digits can repeat. The odds below are exact:

How it works

  1. Add your entries

Type names or options in the box, one per line. Your list stays saved in this browser.

  2. Spin the wheel

Tap the wheel or the Spin button in its center, press Space, or flick the wheel with your finger or mouse.

  3. See the winner

The wheel slows down and stops on one slice. Spin again, or remove the winner to draw the next one.

Questions

How do I make a two-digit random number?

Spin twice: the first digit is the tens and the second is the ones. You get any number from 00 to 99, each with a 1 in 100 chance.

Can I take zero out?

Yes. Delete the 0 line and the wheel becomes 1 to 9, with a 1 in 9 chance for each digit.

Can the same digit come up twice in a row?

Yes, one time in ten. Press Remove after each spin if you need all different digits.

Why use a wheel instead of a die?

A standard die only goes from 1 to 6. The wheel gives all ten digits, which is what you need for place value and for building numbers.

Is this wheel of names free?

Yes. It is free to use, funded by advertising, with no account and no app to install.
