Alphabet wheel: spin for a random letter

This letter wheel opens with all 26 letters, from A to Z. Tap Spin or press the Space bar, and it stops on one letter. Each letter has the same chance: 1 in 26, about 3.8%. You can edit the list next to the wheel, for example to take out hard letters like Q, X and Z.

Games and lessons with an alphabet wheel

  • Category games. Spin a letter, then race to name an animal, a city and a food that start with it.
  • Phonics. Spin, say the sound, and find a word or an object in the room.
  • Scavenger hunts. Find something that starts with each letter that comes up.
  • The whole alphabet. Press Remove in the pop-up after each spin to go through all 26 letters without repeats.

How it works

  1. Add your entries

Type names or options in the box, one per line. Your list stays saved in this browser.

  2. Spin the wheel

Tap the wheel or the Spin button in its center, press Space, or flick the wheel with your finger or mouse.

  3. See the winner

The wheel slows down and stops on one slice. Spin again, or remove the winner to draw the next one.

Questions

Can I take hard letters like Q, X and Z off the wheel?

Yes. Delete their lines in the list next to the wheel, or press Remove in the pop-up when one comes up.

How do I go through the alphabet without repeats?

After each spin, press Remove in the pop-up. That letter leaves the wheel, so all 26 letters come out once each.

Can I spin only vowels?

Yes. Delete the consonants from the list so only A, E, I, O and U are left, or use the random letter generator, which can pick from the vowels only.

How many spins until every letter has come up?

About 100 on average if all the letters stay on the wheel, since the last few missing letters are hard to hit. Press Remove after each spin and it takes exactly 26.

Can I use another alphabet, with letters like Ñ or Ü?

Yes. Each line in the list is one slice, so add Ñ, Ä, Ö or Ü on new lines, or replace the whole list with the letters or sounds your lesson needs.

Is this wheel of names free?

Yes. It is free to use, funded by advertising, with no account and no app to install.
