Roll the dice
Roll with .
The d4 is the smallest die in a role-playing set: a little pyramid with four triangular faces. Here it is ready to roll. Tap it, press Roll or hit the Space bar, and you get 1, 2, 3 or 4, each with a 25% chance. The average roll is 2.5.
A real d4 has no face on top, because it lands on a face and points a corner at the ceiling. Depending on how it is printed, the result is either the number at the top corner, repeated on all three visible faces, or the number along the bottom edges. New players often read the wrong one. On screen, the result is printed in the middle of the die, and the total appears above it.
The d4 has another reputation: with its sharp points, it is the die nobody wants to step on barefoot. The on-screen version is safer.
Outside games, a d4 is simply a fair way to choose among four: four players, four answers, four seasons. The 1 to 4 number page gives the same odds without the die.
4 faces, each with the same chance. Average roll: 2.5.

2.5, halfway between 1 and 4. Over many rolls, the results average out close to that.
Tap “one die”, choose 2 dice, keep 4 sides and press Roll. Add 2 to the total shown above the dice: the result is between 4 and 10.
It depends on the die: on most, the result is the number at the top point, repeated on each visible face; on others it is printed along the bottom edges.
