Pick a day of the week at random

This wheel has seven slices, Monday to Sunday, each with a 1 in 7 chance, about 14.3%. Use it to settle "which day works for everyone?", to choose a day for a weekly habit, or to help young learners practice the days of the week.

Ways to use it

  • Weekly rituals. Spin once to choose your pizza night, your laundry day or your no-screens evening, then keep it.
  • Fair scheduling. Several days work for a meeting or a visit? Delete the others and spin.
  • Chore day. Each person spins the day they do their big weekly chore. Combine it with the chore wheel.
  • Language practice. Spin and say the day in the language you are learning, plus what day comes next.

Where the names come from

English day names mix Roman and Norse gods with the Sun and the Moon, a nice story for a class:

DayNamed after
MondayThe Moon
TuesdayTiw, a Germanic god of war (Týr in Norse myths)
WednesdayWoden, the Old English name of Odin
ThursdayThor, the god of thunder
FridayFrigg, Odin's wife
SaturdaySaturn, the Roman god
SundayThe Sun

Odds for planners: a weekday comes up 71.4% of the time, a weekend day 28.6%.

Questions

Can I spin only weekdays?

Yes. Delete Saturday and Sunday from the list. Each weekday then has a 1 in 5 chance.

Does the week start on Monday or Sunday?

It depends on the country and the calendar. The wheel starts with Monday, as in the international standard, but the order makes no difference to the spin.

Can I use it to choose a date in the month?

For a date, use the random number generator with a range of 1 to 31, or 1 to 30 for shorter months. This wheel only chooses the day of the week.

Is the result truly random?

Yes. Each day has the same slice, and the result is drawn with a cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts turning.

Is this wheel of names free?

Yes. It is free to use, funded by advertising, with no account and no app to install.
