What should I be for Halloween? Spin

Witch, vampire or mummy? The classic monsters are all here, with creatures such as a black cat or a dinosaur and characters like a pirate, an astronaut or a mad scientist: 23 costume ideas that you can make at home or find easily. Each has a 1 in 23 chance. No brands or film characters, just ideas you can make your own.

Ways to use the costume wheel

  • Can't decide. Put your three favorite ideas on the wheel and spin. If you feel disappointed by the result, you know which one you really wanted.
  • Group costume. Spin once for the whole family or group, then everyone dresses as a different version: a pirate crew, a family of skeletons.
  • Costume party challenge. Guests spin when they get the invitation and must come as what the wheel says.
  • Last minute. Delete the costumes that need shopping and keep the ones you can make from clothes and a bit of makeup.
  • Pumpkin faces. Carving instead of dressing up? Spin a costume and carve a jack-o'-lantern that looks like it: a pumpkin pirate, a pumpkin robot.
