Number wheel: spin for a random number

This wheel opens with ten slices, numbered 1 to 10. Tap Spin or press the Space bar, and it lands on one number. All slices have the same chance, so each number has a 1 in 10 chance, or 10%. The list next to the wheel is yours to edit: add 11 to 20, start at 0, or type any numbers you need, one per line.

Ideas for a number wheel

  • Classroom. Spin for a times table, a question number or a group.
  • Games. Decide how many steps to move, how many points a question is worth, or who goes first.
  • No repeats. Press Remove in the pop-up after each spin, and each number comes out only once.

For a big range like 1 to 1000, the random number generator is quicker than a wheel with a thousand slices.

How it works

  1. Add your entries

Type names or options in the box, one per line. Your list stays saved in this browser.

  2. Spin the wheel

Tap the wheel or the Spin button in its center, press Space, or flick the wheel with your finger or mouse.

  3. See the winner

The wheel slows down and stops on one slice. Spin again, or remove the winner to draw the next one.

Questions

How do I make a number wheel from 1 to 20?

Open the list next to the wheel and type the numbers 11 to 20 on new lines, one per line. The wheel adds a slice for each one.

Can the same number come up twice?

Yes, each spin is independent. To take a number out after it wins, press Remove in the pop-up.

Can I use other numbers, like 0 or 100?

Yes. Each line is one slice, so you can type any numbers, in any order, and even mix them with words.

How many spins until every number from 1 to 10 has come up?

About 29 on average if every number stays on the wheel, because the last missing number still has only a 1 in 10 chance on each spin. Press Remove after each win and it takes exactly 10 spins.

Is the number wheel really random?

Yes. The winning slice is chosen by your browser's cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts to turn, with the same chance for every slice. A harder spin makes a longer show, not different odds.

Is this wheel of names free?

Yes. It is free to use, funded by advertising, with no account and no app to install.
