Let the wheel choose the vegetable

Carrots and peas, beets, kale, even Brussels sprouts: the 24 vegetables on this wheel are ones you can find in most supermarkets. Tap Spin to choose tonight's side dish, a soup ingredient or the vegetable your kids will try this week. Each has a 1 in 24 chance, about 4.2%.

Ways to use it at home and in class

  • The one-bite rule. Picky eaters spin the wheel themselves, then try one bite of what comes up. Letting them spin gives them a say in what lands on the plate.
  • Side dish picker. Spin once, then choose how to cook it: roasted, steamed, raw or in a soup.
  • Eat the rainbow. Spin until you have one vegetable of each color in the table below, then plan a week of meals around them.
  • Garden planning. Gardeners can replace the list with the seeds they own and let the wheel choose what goes in the new bed.

Vegetables on the wheel by color

Green vegetables make up most of the list, so they come up most often. Delete a few if you want more variety.

Questions

Why are mushrooms not on the wheel?

Mushrooms are fungi, not vegetables, although they are cooked like them. Add them on a new line if they belong on your plate.

Can I keep only the vegetables my children eat?

Yes. Delete the others from the list. Then add one new vegetable each week, so the wheel slowly gets more adventurous.

How can the wheel plan a week of side dishes?

Spin seven times and press Remove after each one, so you get seven different vegetables. Buy them in one trip and cook the delicate ones, like spinach and asparagus, early in the week.

Does the wheel remember my list?

Yes. Your changes are saved in your browser for this page, so the wheel opens with your own list next time.

Is this wheel of names free?

Yes. It is free to use, funded by advertising, with no account and no app to install.
