Pick between and
Here the reel is loaded with five values, 1 to 5. Press Generate or the Space bar and one of them comes up, each with a 20% chance. Five is a natural size for many small decisions: the days of a school or work week, the fingers on a hand, the points of a rating scale.
If you have 25 options in a five by five grid, generate two numbers with No repeats off: the first is the row, the second the column. Every square has the same 1 in 25 chance. The same trick works with any grid, and it is often easier than numbering every cell.
A game of “guess the number” from 1 to 5 is short: with higher or lower hints, you never need more than three guesses if you start in the middle with 3. For a longer game, move up to the 1 to 10 page.
5 possible numbers. What changes when you pick more than one at a time:
| Numbers picked | A given number is among them (No repeats on) | At least one number twice (No repeats off) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20% | 0% |
| 2 | 40% | 20% |
| 3 | 60% | 52% |
| 5 | 100% | 96.2% |
The lowest and highest numbers for this page are already in the sentence at the top, and both can come up. Nothing to type before your first pick.
Press Generate or the Space bar, or tap the number. The reel rolls like a slot machine and stops on the result.
Tap how many numbers you want in the sentence to get up to 20 at once; No repeats keeps them all different. Tap either end of the range to type a new one.
